Once you pick up a single power-up, you can press ‘LB’ to change your current weapon back to the default Heavy Machinegun. This is where you will first learn to become quick and comfy with your weapon changing. The second POW rewards you with a Thunder Shot which is a MUCH better weapon to use! Free the POW and move forward after picking up or leaving behind the Iron Lizard. Melee these guys and shoot a quick rocket at the Shield soldier with his buddy behind him to quickly deal with these guys. Move onto the next platform and ready yourself for a surprise drop-in from two more enemy soldiers. Moving onto the next section, one enemy soldier awaits your arrival and his sweet death. Be sure to use the Rocket Launcher you’ll pick up too as you will soon pick up another good power-up weapon to replace this. Just be wary of the soldiers who can sometimes still be behind you and the Rocket soldier who will appear on top of the tower and fire at you if he is not dealt with quickly enough. Give the blocking tower a quick treatment with some of Ralf’s Vulcan Punches which destroy the tower within seconds, or just paste it with plenty of gun fire and grenades. Push forward, wiping out the first sets of enemy soldiers and turrets until you come to the garbage fortress at the end of this path. You’ll land on Garbage Island where the Rebel Army is already in full force and ready to ruin your Metal Slug XX Master attempts. Graphics look better and hopefully the game comes to PC in the future. With the difficulty set to beginner and your character chosen, it’s time to let the fun begin with Mission One. The remake makes you appreciate it more then 7 was. Introduction to Leona helps you at least beat the game without dying too many times. METAL SLUG XX: Remix of the games soundtracks are better. Only positive thing is the Thunder-shot weapon. They could have taken Mission 4 and 5 out. Released exclusively for Nintendo DS, which would explain why they didn't make enough sales to continue the series. You don't get to fight future soldiers until Mission 6, which kind of pisses you off not knowing when to expect them. Makes you want to fight different enemies, including some from the previous games. This is in fact the best of the series and if 7/XX weren't made, would be the best ending to all the games chronologically. The tone is pretty dark which is a welcome addition to the series for mature audiences that grew up playing all the MS games. Enemies were fun to take on and Mission 3 actually is really political (if some people might notice). Mission 3 - 5 boss battles were VERY challenging and new to the series instead of having to destroy machines mainly. Length feels perfect but 6 missions would be fun too. METAL SLUG 6: Amazing soundtrack, 2 new characters and everyones special abilities. Thumbs up to the side boss in Mission 1 and the secret path in Mission 3. The music is really entertaining and gets you hooked to the end (especially the Final Attack Theme) Only negative thing is the inability to use the slug gunner and other new slugs for any of the bosses for that mission. METAL SLUG 5: Besides the enemies models to be exact sprites of Morden's soldiers, they feel surprisingly fresh as top professional assassins and mercenaries. Only positive thing I welcome to the series would be the 2-Machine guns. The medal system is completely off the hooks with having to get extra points then dying. New slugs don't really make a difference and besides mission 2 and 3 allowing you to use slugs to beat the boss, the rest of the missions don't allow you which sucks. Replace Tarma and Eri with Trevor and Nadia? Unforgivable and not even popular. METAL SLUG 4: Horrible copy and paste location for each map. Only negative thing is the 4th mission boss which is one of the longest bosses I had to beat in this game. It cost me a lot of money to beat it on arcade (tricky muppets). I could expect it to have 5 missions to cover that sudden plot-twist in the 1/3 of mission 5. METAL SLUG 3: Multiple areas to choose from. The best of the first trilogy/quadrilogy of games (1-3, X). Secret hostage and items hidden in areas also fun to discover. METAL SLUG X: A perfect remake of 2 with harder enemies and a double boss in Mission 3. Nothing negative except for the outrageous train sequence in mission 5. Mission 5 a great challenge in 3 part maps. METAL SLUG 2: An excellent sequel that introduces new weapons, characters and enemies with a nice comedic soundtrack to go with each location and confrontation. Missions 4 - 6 become the right challenge. Tactics take you to the next level of survival. METAL SLUG: An excellent first attempt at a fun shooter, fighting soldiers and vehicles. Out of a decade, here is my personal review, rating and opinion.
